- The first is a two-disc set due out August 6th for $29.99, available both in Pan & Scan and Anamorphic Widescreen with DD 5.1 EX and Dolby 2.0 Surround (no DTS).
- The second disc of the set includes three documentaries: "Welcome to Middle-Earth," "The Quest for the Ring," and "A Passage to Middle-Earth"

- That second edition will be a 4-disc set released on November 12th with a additional half hour of footage (the result of the extra violence means the film will likely garner an R rating). The new 3.5 hour cut of the film will be spread across the first two discs.
- The other two discs will contain six hours of additional content which isn't revealed yet, but one of these extras will be a commentary by Peter Jackson.

- There'll be two versions of this 4-disc set - the standard box, and a special collector's set with the standard box plus two bookend statuettes by Weta sculptors, a National Geographic "Beyond The Movie" DVD, and several collectible cards"
